Five developments regarding anti-union “persuaders” were documented by LaborLab last week, which can be found below. Anti-union persuaders are consultants and lawyers hired to thwart union organizing efforts. Persuader tactics include disseminating false and misleading information about unions and their potential impact on worker benefits. They also employ intimidation tactics such as mandatory captive audience meetings where anti-union messages are delivered. Furthermore, persuaders may engage in surveillance, monitoring union activity and targeting pro-union employees, while also following workers, conducting one-on-one meetings, and collecting personal employee information that can be leveraged against organizing workers.
Labcorp/Portland
Labcorp/Portland hired East Coast Labor Relations for $3,500/day to combat an organizing campaign by Labcorp technicians. Despite extravagant spending on anti-union persuasion, Labcrop was unsuccessful in defeating the union drive. Workers won their election 79-23 (tally announced 2/19/25) and are joining Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals.
Masonite
Masonite has hired LRI Consulting Services for $425/hour.
Bob Evans Farms
Bob Evans Farms has also hired LRI Consulting for $425 an hour. The union election is currently open.
Northwestern Medical Center
Anti-union persuasion firm Heightened Solutions amended their LM-20 for Northwestern Medical Center to add their compensation rate of $300/hour.
Amazon DAX
Allee’s Transportation amended their LM-20 for Amazon DAX5 to add their compensation rate of $2,000/day.
Last week, LaborLab’s Union-Buster Tracker was also updated.
Over the weekend, The Labor Valley Report (TLVR) did a segment highlighting these recent examples of bosses hiring “labor relations consultants” to “persuade” workers against collectively bargaining for stronger workplaces and communities.
