Pottstown Hospital is facing scrutiny after it was uncovered that they have hired a massive team of labor relations consultants to go after organizing nurses. Specifically, the hospital has contracted Reliant Labor Relations, also known as East Coast Labor Relations, to combat a unionization effort by over two-hundred nurses. It’s not uncommon for union-busters to operate under numerous business names, sometimes to avoid detection. Reliant Labor Relations has also subcontracted additional labor relations consultants from four other union-busting firms.
According to documents filed with the U.S. Department of Labor, Reliant Labor Relations is charging Pottstown Hospital $3,500 per day for their services.
Multiple studies have shown that unionized hospitals often have better patient outcomes and lower turnover rates. However, Pottstown Hospital’s decision to hire a union-busting firm suggests that they are prioritizing their own interests over the well-being of their patients and employees.
